This month’s key updates include:
- Our August 2024/25 season forecast (p.1), which, as well as providing specific per tray and per hectare results, includes ranges for each variety, reflecting our current view on the upside opportunities and downside risks for the rest of the season.
- An overview of the draft proposal for the potential expansion of our Northern Hemisphere production business (ZGS) (p.4) to support New Zealand grower returns, as well as responses to grower concerns around how we manage the potential for oversupply, competition in the shoulder season, and quality. We also take a look at the financial benefits of the ZGS proposal for New Zealand growers (p.5), and the link between SunGold hectares and the value of Green Kiwifruit. - A wrap-up of our 25th Annual Meeting (p. 1 and 2) which looked at the progress the industry has made over the past year by putting quality at the core of our decision-making, and the ongoing focus on rebuilding trust and confidence at customer and industry level, on cost management to ensure Zespri is efficiently delivering value to the industry, and the importance of staying ahead of the competition.
- Jason’s CEO column (p.2) where he highlights growing confidence in the industry on the back of strong returns, our response to recent challenges, and the way we’re performing from orchard through the supply chain and in market this year. He also notes the important of discussions on key issues from quality to share alignment and expansion of ZGS.
- A reminder for growers to please update their bank account and GST number details (p.2) as Zespri finalises its preparations for the implementation of Loyalty as Shares and Dividends as Shares initiatives in 2025 as part of our efforts to improve the industry's share alignment.
- An introduction to our two new grower directors (p.3) – Andrew Dunstan and Sally Gardiner ‒ who were elected at this year’s Annual Meeting.
- A sales update (p.6) and how we’re maintaining the momentum through the last few weeks of the summer fruit period, with further key markets including Europe and North America reaching their halfway milestones for the season, as well as insight into some of the new campaigns we’re rolling out in Korea, Vietnam, Japan, and Australia to showcase Zespri Kiwifruit.
- Insight into our ZGS Quality team’s preparations to ensure a successful harvest season, and a summary of a recent visit by some of our key Italian suppliers, who were in New Zealand this month as part of our ZGS expansion discussions (p.8).
