The May 2025 issue of Kiwiflier is attached and available online here.
This edition's key updates include:
- An article on the promising start to the 2025 season, including the arrival of our first charter shipments of SunGold Kiwifruit into Europe and the North America (p.1).
- An update on the Crown Garnet Insurance Claim advising of the positive settlement in relation to the product contamination claim of $3 million related to the mice incident that occurred in April 2024. This follows the $24.1 million settlement with our marine cargo insurers early this year (p.1).
- Jason’s CEO column which highlights the progress in this season's harvest, with over 136 million trays of fruit packed and significant advancements in quality assurance and early season sales. Additionally, he discusses the new Executive team structure and the importance of share alignment initiatives to improve grower ownership and support long-term industry growth (p.2).
- An article on the unauthorised Gold3 plantings issue in China (see p.2.), which explains that while we are still awaiting a final report, we do not expect substantial change to the volume of G3 grown in China from the estimated 8,400 hectares identified in 2024.
- An update on how to opt-in and key dates for the Loyalty as Shares (LaS) and Dividends as Shares (DaS) initiatives, which are set to launch in May (p.1 and p.3). Offer documents are now available on Canopy here. You can read more about the LaS and Das initiatives in the booklet Shareholder Alignment: A Guide to LaS and DaS, which will be available on the Canopy shortly.
- All you need to know in preparation for the 2025 Licence Release which runs from 5 May to 7 May, including an update on the application process, opening prices and FAQs (p.4).
- An update on court action we have taken to obtain more information about a variety we consider to be very similar to Gold3, known as E2 (p.15), first published in the January/February Kiwiflier. The court has now advised us of its decision, finding in Zespri’s favour, ruling that Zespri needs to be provided with information about the distribution and development of the variety.
