2024 Zespri Industry Governance Development Programme announcement

IGDP Selection

We’re pleased to announce the selection of our four outstanding candidates to the 2024 Zespri Industry Governance Development Programme (IGDP). Cam Clayton, Karl Anderson, Liarna White and Malkit Singh have all been selected to participate in this year’s programme, which is part-funded by Zespri.

The IGDP is designed to give candidates a solid introduction to governance and leadership possibilities, as well as allow them to gain an appreciation of their capacity and potential for future engagement in governance within the industry.

Cam Clayton is the Technical & Innovation Manager at DMS Progrowers and currently serving as Associate Director on the KVH board.

Karl Anderson is a Partner in the Projects and Real Estate department at Bell Gully and owns an orchard in Te Puke.

Liarna is a Te Puke-based grower who has been involved in the kiwifruit industry for a number of years. She is currently a Grower Director on the KVH board.

Malkit Singh is the Grower & Industry Relations Manager at Zespri as well as a grower, himself. Malkit is currently a member of the EastPack Entity Trust grower forum.

The programme will see the four candidates complete a number of components designed to further their governance experience and knowledge. This includes completing the Institute of Directors Company Directors Course, receiving public speaking and leadership training, attending business leader forums and participating in networking opportunities. Participants will also be part of a domestic governance tour, which will see them visiting organisations across New Zealand and gaining access to some of the top leaders within the primary industries.

Michelle Dyer, Zespri Director Remuneration Committee representative, would like to congratulate the four successful applicants. "This was the largest number of applications to date and once again, the quality was fantastic. All four candidates should be very proud of their selection, we are confident that a strong group has been selected who will make the most of what the programme has to offer.”

Zespri hosted the IGDP Handover and Alumni Event - which was an evening of celebration for both the graduating and incoming cohorts as well as a chance to get the IGDP alumni together. Attendees heard from Julian Raine, Zespri Director Remuneration Committee Member, Paul Jones, Zespri Deputy Chair and guest speaker Alison Barrass on the value of the programme and the importance of good governance for the future of the kiwifruit industry. The 2023 cohort presented their report findings and reflected on their key takeaways from their time on the programme. The evening was a great success, bringing together IGDP alumni, industry leaders, and supporters of the programme to celebrate the future of governance within kiwifruit.
